Pat McManus - Live And In Time (Re-Re-POST)

Pat McManus - Live And In Time - 2009

Patrick Frances McManus was one of 6 children born into an incredibly talented musical family in Derrylin, Co.Fermangh, N.Ireland. Pat’s father, John, and his mother Valerie were highly accomplished Traditional Irish music players, so it wasn’t long before Pat and his two brothers, John and Tommy, were picking up all the instruments lying around the house and learning to play. By the age of 7, Pat had already performed on live T.V. and by 14 he was All-Ireland Fiddle Champion. Aged 20, Pat somehow stumbled across a band called Horslips. As Horslips were a Celtic rock band, the 3 brothers could relate to their music and quickly became big fans and later attended so many gigs that they formed a friendship with the guys in the band. The brothers soon swapped their Fiddles, Uilleann Pipes and Bodhrans for electric instruments and formed their first band called - Pulse, with Pat on Guitar, John on Bass & Vocals and Tommy (who was only 12 at the time) on drums. During an interview with Radio Luxembourg , Dj – Tony Prince, who remarked how young they all were, jokingly called them Mamas Boys - the boys changed their name. It was just meant to be an ‘of the cuff’ remark but the name stuck and soon the 3 brothers were officially known as Mamas Boys........... READ MORE HERE

Mountain - Official Live Mountain Bootleg Series Volume 3

Mountain - Official Live Mountain Bootleg Series Volume 3 - 2005

The performances contained on the Mountain Bootleg Series are drawn from various stages of the bands career from the very early years when the band first formed through to recent gigs undertaken by the band. All the performances come from the personal archives of both Leslie West and Corky Laing and whilst some of the performances are not sonically perfect the quality of the performances are never in question and as Corky Laing says “Some of the performances are real interesting”. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Barry McCabe - Troubadour

Barry McCabe - Troubadour - 2014

Ginger Baker - Why?

Ginger Baker - Why? - 2014

Famed as the powerful drummer who propelled the rock bands Cream and Blind Faith (among others), Baker is at least as steeped in jazz. He collaborated with Afrobeat icon Fela Kuti, and has led a jazz trio that also included guitarist Bill Frisell and bassist Charlie Haden. African-influenced jazz forms the backbone of Baker’s latest album, “Why?"

It’s a collection balanced between original material like the jaunty, polyrhythmic opener “Ginger Spice,” and Baker’s interpretations of Wayne Shorter’s “Footprints” and Sonny Rollins’ “St. Thomas.” There’s also “Aiko,” an adaptation of a Nigerian folk song. Baker recorded the album with his current touring band: saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis, bassist Alec Dankworth and percussionist Abass Dodoo, along with vocals contributions from Kudzai and Lisa Baker on the title track, which is billed as Baker’s deeply personal reflection on his life.

The Dreadful Yawns - Re:Live

The Dreadful Yawns - Re:Live - 2004

01. Get Yourself Back Home
02. Was I Just Struck By Lightening?
03. End Of Summer
04. I'll Be Born Soon
05. Better Things To Do

08. Part Of Your Past

Mott The Hoople - Live 2013

 Mott The Hoople - Live 2013 - 2014

From Mott The Hoople' Site
At long last, an official full-length concert DVD of one of the UK's greatest-ever live acts. When Mott announced a second reunion in 2013 (following on from the first in 2009) fans were hoping that this time at least one of the gigs would be filmed to finally set the record straight regarding Mott's live prowess. Yes, we had the Hammersmith Apollo 2009 CD, but that was an "instant live" recording, available immediately and so with no opportunity to mix it properly afterwards. Hence when it was announced that the Manchester show in 2013 would be filmed fans were hoping that this time everything would be done properly. And I'm pleased to say that this is everthing the fans have been hoping for.

The initial plan was for the DVD to be from Manchester with the CDs from the following night at the massive O2 Arena in London, but in the end the audio proved to be much superior from Manchester. The sound is good, and the camera work captures the night perfectly.

From the opening salvo of Rock 'n' Roll Queen to the closing "goodbyes" of Saturday Gigs Mott don't let up for a moment, showing what a powerful live band they still are a full 40 years on from the 70's live heyday.

Bassist Overend Watts shows that he's still (in the words of Ballad of Mott The Hoople) a rock 'n' roll star as he takes on vocal duties for Born Late 58 and generally having the time of his life, interacting with the front rows and encouraging everyone to get up, much to the annoyance of the over-bearing Manchester security.

Guitarist Mick Ralphs is high in the mix and his playing is good and strong, despite the discomfort he was in (he had hip replacement surgery shortly afterwards). Long-time fan and self-confessed "Mott groupie" Joe Elliott (from Def Leppard) joins the band for All The Young Dudes before Saturday Gigs brings the show to a close.
